Profile

Title: Orchard Development Manager

Location: Would live on-site at the orchard in Dominguez Canyon, near Delta, CO.

Qualifications: Experienced background in agriculture and farming, with an emphasis on entrepreneurial initiative and a passion for community outreach.   College degree required, preferably in agriculture or business.  Spanish language skills preferred, though not required.

Duties:

• Generate leads for, execute, and coordinate both to large corporate buyers and small local sellers (roadside fruit stands, local restaurants, farmers markets, etc)
• Implement regenerative organic farming policies and practices for the orchard.
• Establish best practices for labor. Recruit, retain, and care for seasonal workers and their families.
  • Spearhead nontraditional but highly impactful farm-labor relationships (e.g., partnerships with villages, refugee resettlement.)
• Build community relationships and coordinate agricultural outreach and charity (e.g., donations, discounts, gleaning, fundraisers).
• Manage the farm’s website; establish and operate online sales.
• Coordinate the use of facilities for retreats and recreational use.
• Research, ee,sustainable.
• Research, evaluate, and implement value-added production operations (fruit juicers, purees, dehydrators, etc.).

• Identify and write grant proposals for special project funding.
• Implement and enforce health, risk, and safety management on property.
• Oversee on-site construction and land development.
• Collaborate and consult with Operations Manager and Accountant on:
  • Best practices
  • Implementing and managing new projects, products, and procedures
  • Employment, staffing, and management
  • Sales logistics
  • Budget
• Recruit, train, and manage interns.
• Assist in farm labor as needed: planting, harvesting, irrigating, equipment operations.
• Assist in farm labor as needed and for solidarity: planting, harvesting, irrigating, equipment operations, repairs, and transporting fruit, supplies, and equipment.
• Hire and manage any necessary independent contractors.

Special projects to include:

• Finding ways to minimize fruit/production waste.
• Possible transition of orchard from traditional production to regenerative organic growing operation.
• Implementation and organization of recreational opportunities on the property (glamping, U-pick operations, on-site store front, river/water front activities and attractions.

Compensation Package:

• Annual Salary
