Flex available.Location: Office of Design, Ames, IowaThe Office of Design is looking to hire a Roadside Design Specialist 2 to successfully provide technical expertise for landscaping in the Right-of-Way and develop landscape projects, that enhance the state and national transportation systems in Iowa. This individual will be an essential member of a team that collaborates with numerous stake holders to develop and monitor erosion control, revegetation, and landscape projects. This position requires strong communication skills, knowledge, and experience working with Iowa’s native plant communities and the ability to manage projects in a timely manner.Typical Responsibilities:
Provides construction documents for planting projects.
Provides guidance to inspection staff on planting and installation methods.
Assists with inspections and monitors planting projects, to assist inspection staff of the Department.
Provide technical assistance to design personnel and field staff on native plant species, shrubs, trees, and other planting concerns.
Assist with training for staff, consultants, and contractors on the latest planting standards and regulations.
Ability to successfully utilize advanced software applications.
Analyze challenges, defines successful solution alternatives and proactively solves problems.

Effectively communicate with a wide variety of individuals involved in our development processes and with all levels of management.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
All of the following (1 and 2):
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in agronomy, landscape architecture, engineering, horticulture, or forestry; and
A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in agronomy, landscape architecture, engineering, horticulture, or forestry equals one year of full-time experience in professional roadside development, site plan development, pollution prevention plan development, or watershed management.
